New Program!

Youth Volunteer Group

Youth Volunteer Club (YVC) is for Darien 10-12th graders who want to volunteer at a variety of local nonprofit organizations. Each month, there will be volunteer opportunities (mostly Saturdays or on weekday afternoons/evenings). Students would be expected to volunteer a minimum of 4 times during the school year.

Volunteer activities will include stocking shelves at a food pantry, serving dinner at a soup kitchen, teaching English classes at an immigrant center, tutoring students at an after-school program, distributing food at a community garden, sorting clothes at a homeless shelter, or playing games with elderly in assisted living. All the organizations will be located in Darien, Stamford, Norwalk, or New Canaan.

Youth Volunteer Club members will be required to attend a kickoff meeting in September and a final meeting in May. Students can sign up to attend volunteer opportunities every month. We understand that not all students will be available each month, but we do require that students attend at least four volunteer activities.
Each month, we will be emailing volunteer information to students, and students will need to sign up for the volunteer activities that they can attend. Students or their parents will provide transportation. We will also be asking for parents to help chaperone.

Students submit an application in May and then a $300 registration fee. Interested students will be put on a waitlist once the group is filled.
